Wednesday (22 Apr 26)

Both those Mummies were up early this morning and M Sooz was busy drinking (water) almost as soon as her eyes were open. She was going off for a (yet another) medical appointment. She has certainly been in the wars lately – ever since they diagnosed her with – and let me get this right – carcinosarcoma – a particulary rare and aggressive nasty. She has had an exploratory procedure and biopsy, a surgery to remove the nasty and now she is lining up for some chemotherapy and radiation treatment to ‘mop up’ because it appears the nasty decided to start travelling around her system. Bad bad nasty! Anyway – enough about M Sooz – she is doing fine and she and M Kaz have their friends and families to support them.

And speaking of family, Aunty Wendy and Uncle Wayne are coming back to Jannie this weekend before Uncle Wayne packs up his caravan and moves on to his next BlazeAid camp – this one in Murgon. It’s not that far away and hopefully he will be able to move further north (for the warmth) as Winter approaches – and the price of diesel starts to come down. (No, there’s no need to go over why the price of diesel has almost doubled and is now over $3/litre.)

The newly-planted … can you call it ‘planted’ if it’s being grown hydroponically? – cat grass is coming along nicely. I keep reminding M Kaz to check that there’s still water in the container under it – because we know she didn’t keep it topped up last time and that’s why there’s ‘newly-planted’ Nigey grass. She seems to be doing okay with it and she’s aso giving it regular squishes of water from the squishy-bottle that Aunty M gave us. And thanks to Aunty M I have a new supply of my teeth cookies. I love me those teeth cookies.

I’ve never thought of M Sooz as a big poker machine player but it looks as though that might change based on the photo I found of her on M Kaz’s phone!

Sunday (19 Apr 26)

OK, here we go. Cat grass: take two. M Kaz has been busily drowning cat seeds in a tray getting them ready to spread out on the cat grass container’s suspended platform so that they would start growing. It only takes 24 hours to prepare them – and there were sprouts/shoots when she went to do the changeover – so it’s only a matter of time now. The last seeds had produced some grass within a few days so I hope this lot is the same. Hmm … I feel like some right now.

Not a lot else has been happening here at Jannie. M Kaz isn’t tending to me enough so I’m finding I have to give her little teeth nips on her legs so she will take better notice of me. She’s a bit thick sometimes. Yes, I know she tries her best but she is sometimes woefully lacking. I suppose she does have other things in her mind – like getting her mate Tony down at the water in the mornings to make them another fruit cake. They finished the last one last night and I would swear there were tears – especially from M Kaz as she cut the last slice in half so M Sooz could have some too. Talk about sacrifices!

Sunday (12 Apr 26)

That’s it. M Kaz can’t be in charge of the cat grass anymore. She had one job really – that was to keep it watered and while she was squishing it with the spray bottle that Aunty M had given them, that wasn’t enough. She really should have been checking the level of the water in the reservoir underneath the cat grass – because there wasn’t any! It may be that we’ve had a couple of very hot days here at Jannie and she didn’t think to check my grass but she really should have because by the time she noticed there was an issue the grass was wilting and I’m not sure that anything she can do will be able to bring it back.

Two days later. The cat grass is no more. I watched as M Kaz put the grass in the rubbish and the containers in the dishwasher. She days she’s going to start a new batch but not this morning as she and M Sooz were off to another medical appointment. It’s okay Mummies. You’ve got this!

We are going to need a bigger bed though. M Kaz is taking up way too much room in mine. And she knows I don’t like moving once I’ve settled – which is why she had to get out M Sooz’s side of the bed this morning. And don’t think it was easy for her – now that Uncle Wayne and Aunty Wendy have pulled the bed frames apart so the mattress overhang goes in the middle of the beds, there is a biggish dip which M Kaz kind of rolled into (but not easily out of). I may have laughed just a little. The leg cramp she started to get when she had managed to get out of the dip and was about to get out on Sooz’s side of the bed was a bit distressing for her but added to the show for me. (She knows I love her!)

Monday (6 Apr 26)

I’m not sure it’s safe to let these Mummies out- without me. They came back today from visiting Aunty Roz saying they had almost been in a single-vehicle accident – in a golf buggy of all things. A yellow one – so if they had perished (thank goodness they did not) at least they could have said M Kaz was in a colour she loved. So what happened? They were not very forthcoming with the details but I think a roundabout and speed was involved – and it seemed to be worse for M Kaz and Aunty M who were sitting in the back.  I believe the phrase ‘did you life flash before your eyes’ was used.  I don’t think any of them are likely to want to get back into the ‘buggy of death’ again.

It was wonderful having Uncle Wayne and Aunty Wendy to stay.  They arrived the day M Sooz came home from hospital – yes, that’s where she was, having an operation.  And no, she didn’t come home with a cone around her head – although I think it would have been good if she had.  She has been spending a bit of time in bed recuperating but she has also been out playing with M Kaz and the siblings too, which is a good thing.  Especially when there are prawns as there were on Good Friday for lunch.  It’s just a pity I don’t like them because these were fresh off the trawlers.  Uncle Wayne and Aunty Wendy were very brave going to get them because apparently a fight almost broke out over there while they were collecting them.

I don’t know what it is about Easter but there has certainly been a lot of chocolate around the house!  And Cheezels and ice cream (not in the same bowl) because Aunty Wendy really loves those.

Aunty M came over one night to watch the new series of Deadloch with them – and they all laughed and laughed – except at the end when Aunty Wendy and M Kaz shed some tears – and I don’t think it was just because someone was eaten by a crocodile.

The siblings have gone home now which means I get my bedroom back and M Kaz has taken to going back into her office in the mornings.
Did I mention that it’s colder than ever now in the Mummies’ bedroom?  Before M Sooz came home from hospital, M Kaz was able to organise to have a new air conditioner installed in their bedroom.  Amazingly it is so good (so much better than the old one) that it’s the only device on in their now to cool it.  The overhead fan isn’t being used and the Vornado fan (it was a bit noisy some nights) has been retired for the moment.  And also M Kaz didn’t accept the $22k quote to attend to the stormwater drain.  She found another plumber through someone down at the Broadwater (where she goes for coffee and photography in the mornings) and Jarrod came and quoted $2k – which was a lot better than the other quote.  So, the person came on the Friday morning (at about the same time as the air conditioner was installed) to dig the pit and the whole drain was ‘jetted’ the next day.  Jobs done!
