Wednesday (25 Mar 26)

I’m sure those Mummies keep secrets from me.  Both of them were out of the house before 6am this morning and that hasn’t happened for so long I couldn’t actually tell you.  M Kaz does it most mornings – taking her camera with her – but today it was both of them but there was no camera – there was an overnight bag for just M Sooz.  Something is definitely up – especially since Aunty M popped over to see the Mummies yesterday afternoon as well.  Hmmmm.  The note on the new/revised/improved/bigger whiteboard may have something to do with it – WED 25 MAR – SOOZ TO HOSPITAL.  What the …?  She was only there a couple of weeks ago.  Now, to be fair, M Sooz has been a bit off-colour for a while now and even the brain surgery last year didn’t help.  Wait … it wasn’t actually brain surgery – it was a thalamotomy to help with her essential tremor – and that worked – and she didn’t seem to mind that they shaved her head for that.  It did grow back – not as curly though.  From what I can gather – with all the talk of ‘what happens with all the air’ (they will pump into her) she is having a Laparoscopic (that’s a big word) operation to take bits of her out and look at other bits to make sure the nasty she has hasn’t spread.  Paws definitely crossed here!

Meanwhile … who knew M Kaz knew so many bad words?  Yes, yes, we all know she has ‘Motoring Tourettes’ where any number of combinations of swear words spew out of her mouth whenever another driver does something to displease her – but she has started cussing about costs around the house.  She has had a quote for fixing the stormwater drain running from the house down to the street so they can hopefully get rid of the wading pool that develops in the front courtyard when they have heavy and protracted rain fall.  I know she is getting quotes because I watched the plumber futzing around with the camera on a pipe when he put it up the drain and then showed M Kaz the splits, the tree roots (small-ish she thought but she’s not a plumber) and a squashed bit too.  I heard her joke – before she was told the price – that it might be cheaper to move.  The plumber said nothing – and then he came back with a cost of $22,000-odd to basically replace the drain and put in a pit near the house to collect the (wading pool) water.  She is getting another quote – maybe a couple.

She didn’t cuss nearly as much when the electrician gave her a price for putting in three more smoke detectors so Jannie meets the fire code regulations.  And she certainly hasn’t been cussing with the new powerpoint the electrician put into the kitchen – above the bench. It means she can now cook (ha ha – yes, that’s what she calls it) in the kitchen without wearing shoes – she needed the extra height to be able to reach across the bench into the counter where the original powerpoint was positioned.

Come to think of it, she’s also really happy with the new taps in the bathroom (future proof ones – where you just move them back and forth to use them not turn them – or overturn them as M Kaz was guilty of) and her new birthday printer!

Am I as happy with my new box?  I probably would have been but it came at an enormous cost!  My favourite box has been removed and as we speak it is crying in the recycling bin – calling out to me to rescue it.  It’s a hard life sometimes especially as I’m not allowed out the front!

Sunday (15 Mar 26)

I really do wish M Kaz would be a bit more diligent with keeping my blog up to date. It’s not as though I’m not nagging gently reminding her most days that she has responsibilities but she’s very good at ignoring me sometimes. Is it any wonder that I resort to kisses and cuddles to get her to pay attention to me and my wants and needs (besides food and litter tray duties). That being said I think she’s had a bit of an excuse the last couple of days – what, with it being her birthday and all. Old? Old? Well, let’s not even suggest that to her.

My favourite box, absolutely amazingly, is still on the table and I’m still using it. Yes, yes, I know I can’t quite get all of me into it all at the one time, but there’s nothing wrong with that. I’m also spending time on my recliner (in one of my other boxes – of course).

The big news is that we have a puppy! Well, actually it’s not ‘our’ puppy but the neighbours do have one. His kennel name is Gomez (part of the now-famous Ipswich Addams family – there were enough puppies in the litter for them all to be called after the Addams) but they’re calling him Max. Max is a biter, and a chewer, and a destroyer of pot plants – and they’ve only had him for two days! He is my new hero – although he has some way to go before he actually catches up with me. (Was that M Kaz shuddering just then?)

I am going to see some new faces around her in the next week. M Kaz has booked the plumber and an electrician to come to Jannie. She still has to work out exactly what she wants them to do but you know her – she works best to a deadline and by the time they get here on Wednesday and Friday, she hopes to have it figured out. I think part of it has something to do with smoke alarms to make sure they meet the new residential regulations but when she was looking through the last paperwork from the electrician, she noticed something about them – so we shall see.

M Kaz has been buying me new bowls – something about making sure I don’t suffer from ‘whisker fatigue’ which is some person’s theory about why cats don’t eat out of the bowl when – ‘I CAN SEE THE BOTTOM’ even if it’s just in one small part of the bowl. I don’t know how to tell M Kaz this but sometimes I think it’s what’s in the bowl not the bowl itself.

Tuesday (3 Mar 26)

What the …?  That is not me!  Well, it was my photo but yes, yes, you’ve guessed it, M Kaz has been playing with AI and making fake news of me doing things.  It backfired on her though because one of them is supposed to be of me ironing – but obviously isn’t.

She did one of M Sooz and Aunty M sitting down having coffee and cake.  I don’t know about anyone else but M Sooz didn’t seem like M Sooz at all – and their voices were very different from their real selves.  Hopefully M Kaz will get bored with it soon and not bore all of us with it for too long.

Summer is officially over but no-one seems to have told the folk who are in charge of the weather yet.  The fans and air conditioners are still on here at Jannie and I’m still spending time on the ironing board (not ironing) in the second bedroom – but not doing what AI would have us believe.

I am waiting for M Kaz to sneak my old (almost flat) box out of the house.  She has replacements available but I’m not quite ready for them yet.
