April … come what may …

How on earth did it get to be April already?  It seems like just a second ago that the Mummies were deciding that they wouldn’t stay up for the midnight fireworks on New Year’s Eve … and here we are past the time for April Fool’s Day jokes!

M Kaz had put some work into her April Fool’s Day ruse this year – enough to say that it was about her convincing everyone that she was working out the algorithm they used to select the random word for each day’s Wordle so that she could get the word out first go!

And get it out first go she did … although there was subterfuge involved … but not as much as there could have been because she was trying to find out the Wordle the night before (surely NZ would get it at midnight their time – but no!) so she could send it to everyone so they could get it out first go as well.  Hmmmmm.  The best laid plans … of mice (yay, mice!) and people …

Having a nap with my stringey thing.

The cheek … the impudence … what ever possessed Diny to think he was welcome to sit in my best box?  I know I’m supposed to be a kind cat and share my things … but that is my very special box from Aunty M and it is only for Nigey’s use.  I told him off good, but it took him a while to find himself somewhere else nice to sit.

Otherwise it has been fairly quiet around here.  M Kaz has finally managed to find someone to do the clearing out of the two front gardens so it looks as though I’ll be able to go out there again soon.

It was good when Steve, our neighbour at the front, came over today to prune back the jasmine that they planted on their side of the fence but which had started to cascade down our side.  It looks a lot tidier now and I like to think that is, at least a little bit, because I supervised.

Plastics galore!

Okay Mummies do you believe me now that someone (bags not me) has to organise the plastics cupboard? When M Kaz was in there yesterday looking for a couple of containers for the leftover soup they all started to jump out at her. She crammed them back in and obviously didn’t give it another thought until she had to go back in there this evening to get a microwave container … and some escaped.

The equilibrium in the cupboard has obviously been disturbed because you could hear them all straining to get out. Sometimes the Mummies can quickly toss the escaping plastics back in and cIose the door to trap them in there. They don’t usually put up the fight they did tonight and for a moment or two it looked as though they might win … and they would have had M Kaz not jammed the spatula into the door handles to trap them in there. Good luck to whoever has to open that cupboard next… because there’s no way there’s not going to be an avalanche of plastic!

It was raining again this morning so I spent most of it in my bag, in my box, in my plastic tub. But I didn’t sleep the day away – I hopped up for a bit when Aunty M came to visit. There was some talk of them watching a television show but M Sooz was not feeling well and said she didn’t feel like it so, after lunch and a chat, Aunty M went off into the … not rain.

Rainy days are Mondays …

Just as well those Mummies go out early in the morning, otherwise I wouldn’t have known about the power outage over a lot of Labrador.  It was good that M Kaz wasn’t being a timid driver this morning or she could still be waiting to get over the not-working traffic lights on the way to their morning walk.  I wonder if they would have still gone if the lights had been out when the alarms went off – and isn’t it a good thing that there are alarms that don’t need to be plugged in to power to work.  I wonder if anyone still has those old alarm clocks that you just wound up to have them work – not their phone or digital alarm.
It has rained steadily all day today and I have kept myself busy as best I could … moving from sleeping place to sleeping place and asking M Kaz for crunchies – that hadn’t gone soggy in the  humidity.

I didn’t help M Kaz with her “work” for “Peter” this morning – and there must have been a fair bit of it because she was in the office for a while.  I don’t think she was doing anything else in there … although was that an episode of “The Conners” I heard at one stage?

I am still enjoying the box that Aunty M bought me and M Kaz put a picture of me (mostly) in it to the interweb today.  I think other pets will be a little bit envious when they see it.

Think of a five-letter word …

Those Mummies get odder every day!  They are addicted to some new word game … Wordle I think it’s called and every night if M Kaz is getting ready for bed and it’s not far away from midnight, she talks about staying up just that little bit extra so she can do the Wordle as soon as it “drops”.  It’s a while since she did that – they’ve been going to bed earlier so they can get up to go walking – but I did notice this morning at 3.30am that M Kaz was glued to her phone doing something – which turned out to be the Wordle.  It must have been a hard one though because she didn’t do her usual fist-pump and “yes” – which is what she does when she’s happy with how many turns it takes for her to get it out. No, she just put the phone down and snuggled back into the bed.  Okay, okay, it was my fault she was up at 3.30am in the first place – it’s not as though she set an alarm so she could get up then … but she doesn’t need an alarm when she has me!  It’s so good to have them home … I just have to scratch at the side of the bed, near her sleeping machine tube, and M Kaz wakes up straight away and follows me to my food bowl so she can keep me company while I eat – because there are always cookies in there.  Those Mummies are so good to me!

We all had a good sleep-in!

When they got up the next time, they were getting ready to go to breakfast but even though they were hurrying a little bit, they still found time to work on the Wordle.  M Sooz was up first and had already had her shower by the time M Kaz finally woke up.  That’ll teach her to be awake at all hours of the night!  M Sooz was stuck on the Wordle and told M Kaz so – who then admitted she had been trying to get it out during the night and had even been trying to dream the answer … but hadn’t been able to. It was about then that M Sooz mentioned that she had the Y in right place at the end of the word.  D’oh.  And to think they’d even talked about not saying what letters they had while they were playing!  With that piece of the puzzle, M Kaz was then able to work out the word and give M Sooz a hint so she could work it out as well. I think it was a hard word – and I could see why they had been stuck on it! (Spoiler alert:  The word was EPOXY.)

A stranger came to the front door this afternoon and as soon as I heard his voice, I bounded out to protect M Kaz.  He was offering to mow the yard or do other lawn work and while anyone could see that it really needs some TLC she told the gentleman “no thank you” and he went off to do someone else’s yard.  I think she was a bit concerned because he hadn’t introduced himself when he was talking with her, or maybe because he looked like … well, a bit scruffy and not as well-presented as any of the other yard folk.  But, as she said later, at least he was there … and we all know she still hasn’t been able to get a reply from Scotty even though she has put in a number of calls to him.
