Those Mummies are beyond odd. They turned off the lights last night and M Kaz gave M Sooz a light bulb to hold as though that would do anything – and then M Kaz pulled the camera out and started taking photographs of M Sooz. What the …? And then M Kaz put it on social media. She’s always doing things like that.

M Kaz has been watching some strange movies of late. Yes, she’s still watching her “end of the world” ones but she’s also been watching a couple that Aunty M has mentioned. I’m not sure she’s totally enjoyed them but I’ve certainly liked the variety. But I must say I thought M Kaz would have liked the one with Adam Devine because photos people took with their phones did play a pivotal role.

Did I mention that M Kaz made a mistake? Let me put it another way: she was wrong! Do you remember I was saying a while ago about how she was joking about using Vaseline under her nose to deal with … never mind, there’s no nice way of putting it – but she should have said ‘Vicks VapoRub’ … yes, yes, we know they say its active ingredients trick the brain into feeling like airways are clearer – important if you’re using it for a cold – but the strong smell of it and similar ‘mentholated balms’ can help block ‘noxious odours’ (not that bad Mummies!) – see, I told you there was no nice way of putting it. Funny that – something that can make you feel as though you are breathing better – or not – all in the one jar.

Tuesday (30 Jun 26)

It’s raining at Jannie – again. And it’s still cold – cold enough that M Kaz has started wearing a hoodie. I’m not sure if she’s doing it so she looks tough – but she doesn’t. M Sooz does though. She came home from Australia Fair with her head shaved this afternoon. It may or may not be true that M Kaz was saying to her that they should take a new photograph of her for her Facebook profile – one with her with her bald head, a black coat and a lightbulb … maybe with a caption which says ‘Brought to you by the Addams Family’ or ‘Uncle Fester’. Just as well M Sooz isn’t sensitive about having her head shaved – I think it’s because it’s not her first time with a shaved head (she had one last year when she had the procedure for treating her essential tremor) and because she does look good without hair. Not like some cats – they look … as though they should have hair and lots of it.

It was good that M Sooz felt like going out today because she didn’t the other day. That was Saturday and the Mummies usually have breakfast with Aunty M – but M Sooz was not feeling well enough to go. Aunty M (bless her cotton socks) rang a little while later to say she could bring some breakfast goodies to Jannie so they could all still have breakfast together – which they did. It was good because Aunty M even brought me something – a curly toy! I love it!

They’re all planning to go out to breakfast again tomorrow so hopefully M Sooz will be up for it. It’s okay Mummies- I’ll just wait here.

Friday (26 Jun 26)

I cannot believe M Kaz locked me in the cupboard! What did I do (besides hissing at Dr Donna yesterday)? She had about another minute before I started screaming Jannie down if she didn’t let me out of there. It was pretty cramped moving around all the stuff they keep in the cupboard under the bench in the kitchen – no, I’m not going to go into details. And in retrospect, I shouldn’t have gone into the cupboard either. How was I to know M Kaz didn’t see me go in there? I know I’m not always where the Mummies expect to find me but I’m always somewhere – and I have to think M Kaz wasn’t even looking for me after she’d cleared out and stacked the dishwasher. I know she always checks in the dishwasher before she starts it – and then to be (neurotically) sure she always makes sure she “sights” me before closing the door and pushing START. Pity she didn’t check the cupboard where I actually was. But it’s okay. I’m out now – and planning my rev … wait, forget that bit.
Poor M Sooz hasn’t fared well in her first week of her double-dose chemotherapy. She was in enough pain to have a Telehealth consultation with her GP so she could get some heavy-duty pain relief. Who knew the 3-times-a-day Panadol Osteo regime wouldn’t even come close to easing the pain. The ‘big’ painkillers are helping but she is not her best self at the moment. The good news is that the bruises from where she took the tumble the other night are fading.

The view in the cupboard!

Thursday (25 Jun 26)

I did not hiss at Dr Donna at the V-E-Ts today. Okay, that might be a bit of a fib but it was totally justified. Oops, that might be a fib too. I just didn’t want to be there. I had been relaxing in one of my tubs, Outback, enjoying the day and keeping an eye of M Sooz when M Kaz appeared out of nowhere, scooped me up and threw me into my cage. M Sooz betrayed me by closing the lid on me. Did I say “no”? Yes – the Mummies heard me loud and clear. I know because M Sooz said so to M Kaz – with quite a bit of surprise in her voice – as though I’ve never said anything before. Did they take any notice of me? No. And can you believe Aunty M and Mimi weren’t even there yet? That – seeing Mimi for the very first time – was the only reason I’d even considered going when Aunty M mentioned her appointment for Mimi to those Mothers the other day. I might have imagined the words “double date”. So, and alas, Dr Donna bore the brunt of my considerable rage! Dr Donna still did a lovely job on my nails though – that’s the sign of a true professional.  No, I’m not showing them to anyone.
