Saturday (11 Jul 26)

There is an interloper! There are actually two but the other one hasn’t made it in from Ravi yet. The capybara is living in my room and sleeping in my bed.  Hopefully this will only be until Aunty Wendy comes down next weekend;  then she can take her home with her.  The steer/cow/bovine is going to live with us and hopefully will behave.  I am not sure if it’s a cow boy or a cow girl.  Do girl cows have horns?   Not that it matters.  Well, not to me anyway.

It continues to be a bit cooler here – so much so that M Kaz has been sitting Outback with me some days – trying to get a bit warmer.  I’m not supposed to tell anyone but she has Nana naps out there with me – I know because her snoring wakes me up. I suppose she must be tired to go to sleep sitting up at the table.  She does that at night too – but inside at the dining room table. Can you call it “dining room” if it’s mostly open plan?

It’s Saturday night here at Jannie and I am doing my best to relax on M Sooz’s recliner.  The Mummies are doing something called ‘parallel play’ where M Sooz is in bed watching something which sounds like opera or classical music.  M Kaz is currently awake (fancy that), sitting at the table, taking notes for my blog and watching something called ‘Stargate SG-1’ while she does it.  And who said she couldn’t do two things at once?  (No-one says she does it well but …)

Thursday (9 Jul 26)

If they wanted to know how I got into my cat ‘box’, they should have been paying me more attention and watching while I did it.  Yes, I finally let them see me inside the box they thought I’d never be able to get into.  Okay, my tail doesn’t exactly fit in there with the rest of me but that’s nothing to do with me – M Kaz really should have gotten me a bigger one.  That’s one of the problems with her buying things on the internet – she can’t always gauge their exact size – and while I have enjoyed scratching on the pad on the roof, it seemed a shame that all of the inside was unused.  I had to go in there last night because there was really nowhere else for me to sit.  I had been on M Sooz’s recliner but when I went to get a snack, she stole it back.  The other recliner doesn’t have a cover and the leather is too cold for me so there was no other option than to go to I went to M Kaz’s couch.  And why was that?  Because she still hadn’t put all my things back on the floor after Aunty Anja had been.  I was sitting on the roof scratchy pad to start with but decided to go inside – knowing that they would finally know I can actually fit in there.  Yes, I know, busted – but sometimes a Nigey has to do what a Nigey has to do.

Otherwise things have been just puddling along here at Jannie.  M Sooz is still not feeling totally well after her first big chemotherapy treatment – but she has been a bit better than she was straight after it.  It looks like she will be crook for two weeks after the treatment and then feel a bit better in the third week.  And, of course, there’s another treatment next week so I it will be interesting to see if the same thing happens.  The good news is that we’re all used to her not having any hair at the moment.  Thank goodness we were able to find her a beanie she likes so she can keep her head warm.

Friday (3 Jul 26)

Those Mummies are beyond odd. They turned off the lights last night and M Kaz gave M Sooz a light bulb to hold as though that would do anything – and then M Kaz pulled the camera out and started taking photographs of M Sooz. What the …? And then M Kaz put it on social media. She’s always doing things like that.

M Kaz has been watching some strange movies of late. Yes, she’s still watching her “end of the world” ones but she’s also been watching a couple that Aunty M has mentioned. I’m not sure she’s totally enjoyed them but I’ve certainly liked the variety. But I must say I thought M Kaz would have liked the one with Adam Devine because photos people took with their phones did play a pivotal role.

Did I mention that M Kaz made a mistake? Let me put it another way: she was wrong! Do you remember I was saying a while ago about how she was joking about using Vaseline under her nose to deal with … never mind, there’s no nice way of putting it – but she should have said ‘Vicks VapoRub’ … yes, yes, we know they say its active ingredients trick the brain into feeling like airways are clearer – important if you’re using it for a cold – but the strong smell of it and similar ‘mentholated balms’ can help block ‘noxious odours’ (not that bad Mummies!) – see, I told you there was no nice way of putting it. Funny that – something that can make you feel as though you are breathing better – or not – all in the one jar.

Tuesday (30 Jun 26)

It’s raining at Jannie – again. And it’s still cold – cold enough that M Kaz has started wearing a hoodie. I’m not sure if she’s doing it so she looks tough – but she doesn’t. M Sooz does though. She came home from Australia Fair with her head shaved this afternoon. It may or may not be true that M Kaz was saying to her that they should take a new photograph of her for her Facebook profile – one with her with her bald head, a black coat and a lightbulb … maybe with a caption which says ‘Brought to you by the Addams Family’ or ‘Uncle Fester’. Just as well M Sooz isn’t sensitive about having her head shaved – I think it’s because it’s not her first time with a shaved head (she had one last year when she had the procedure for treating her essential tremor) and because she does look good without hair. Not like some cats – they look … as though they should have hair and lots of it.

It was good that M Sooz felt like going out today because she didn’t the other day. That was Saturday and the Mummies usually have breakfast with Aunty M – but M Sooz was not feeling well enough to go. Aunty M (bless her cotton socks) rang a little while later to say she could bring some breakfast goodies to Jannie so they could all still have breakfast together – which they did. It was good because Aunty M even brought me something – a curly toy! I love it!

They’re all planning to go out to breakfast again tomorrow so hopefully M Sooz will be up for it. It’s okay Mummies- I’ll just wait here.
