I really don’t know why those Mummies don’t want me to find Felix (my new spider friend.)  He seemed nice enough and you could tell he was scared when M Kaz went off to get the can of insecticide – that’s a long word and it took longer for M Kaz to find a can of something – which turned out to be disinfectant.  Anyway, by the time she came back, Felix had run off – he went so fast I wasn’t sure where he ended up – and I would have looked for him but, as I said, I could tell the Mummies weren’t keen that I should find him.  I think it was a him.  He was a magnificent specimen too – we’re not sure what species, but he was big enough that M Kaz could have held him in the palm of her hand, and there wouldn’t have been much of that palm showing.

While we do have Felix (somewhere), we don’t have other friends – like the cockroach the neighbours found in their bedroom – on a pillow!  That wouldn’t have bothered me, but it did seem to bother them, so much that they are calling the pest control people back to look at re-doing the treatment they had done last November.  Of course, it could have something to do with that they leave their doors open – and they’ve had other things in besides bugs – like snakes, just a little green one but that’s one of the reasons the Mummies keep the doors closed here – and why M Kaz went to such lengths to Cecil-proof the Outback, even though Uncle Wayne was fairly sure they wouldn’t be able to shimmy under the Colorbond.  At least I can still make playmates out of the lizards that come in under there.

M Sooz went out to breakfast with Aunty M this morning and after they gone it seemed that M Kaz was going to go soon after but she spent the next hour looking for a piece of paper that she said she needed (a ‘script’ I think she called it).  Despite all the muttering and cursing, she didn’t find it but her desk is looking way less messy since she’d gone through every bit of paper on there looking for it.  It was pretty funny when she finally decided to ring the chemist to see if they had it – and they did.  Well, I thought it was funny.  She did work out what had happened, eventually, because the last time she’d had it ‘filled’, the chemist had to get stock in and she hadn’t collected the ‘script’ when she collected the ‘stuff’ because she always takes the script with her and she thought she already had.  But it seems that this may be the last time she does the searching thing if the words ‘never again’ mean anything and are going to propel her into action.  That and ‘I have too many pens’ or words to that effect.  Stay tuned!

But enough about them.  Word on the street is that my new bags of cat litter have finally arrived and I just have to wait for M Kaz to carry one in from the shed so she can top up my tray – or, better still, give me a whole new fresh one.

And no, there is no truth in the rumour that now that M Kaz is stocking up on Fancy Feast cookies for me that I have stopped eating them, favouring the Cachets instead.  Oh, wait, that might be so.

Monday (15 April 2024)

Me helping with the “secret” project.

I can’t believe M Kaz sat at the table for most of this morning and a fair chunk of this afternoon working on her so-called “secret project” – which is actually just planning for their trip to other climes later in the year. They think I’m not taking any notice – but I am – and I’m counting down the days until Uncle Wayne comes to holiday with me here at Jannie. I have a calendar.

Not much has been afoot here except M Kaz is awake most mornings before the sun goes up and she is off to the Broadwater to take some photographs and have a walk along the waterfront and take some photographs. She sometimes takes M Sooz with her depending on how that Mummy is feeling which depends on how well she’s slept during the night.

I almost made it into the dryer today but the door was just closing as I got there, ready to jump in. Drat. I’ll have to hang around out there until the laundry’s dry and then jump in to the basket they put those wonderfully warm clothes in. Only 2hr 37min to go. I’ll have to get a clock to go with my calendar.
M Kaz has been trigger-happy with her camera and/or smartphone again – creeping up on me when I’m not looking (read: asleep) or trying to get me to pose for her – as though I don’t have anything better to do. Still, I don’t mind the profile shot she used on her Facebook page.

Thursday (11 April 2024)

I can be as bitey as I want, M Kaz, and there’s not a lot you can do about it – except try to keep your leg out of my mouth. And, no, I don’t know why I am being bitey – it’s just the way it is this week. But at least I’m still cute some of the time – I know you think that’s when I’m sleeping but there are other times too – just ask M Sooz. She sees it. You might be asleep when it happens – or I might be the one who’s sleeping. I do a bit of that – and aren’t you glad that I’ve started sleeping on your beds again or on your foot.

Saturday (6 April 2024)

Saturday. The day the mummies always get up early and go out to breakfast with Aunty M, Bluey and his parents. They went to a different cafe this morning. They’ve been there before but not with the others. I think it was okay although it was a bit noisy, pretty busy, the chairs were uncomfortable, the mugs were the wrong shape so they had to have takeaway cups, and … well, Bluey could be in the cafe but not up on a chair. The food must have been okay because they didn’t mention it.

They are still watching Midsomer Murders in the evenings and I’m doing my best not to get addicted to it too but it is getting harder. I wonder if they’ll ever get interested in another detective?

M Kaz spent time in her office this afternoon – and then out of it and then back in it. I tried to tell her it would be easier and more time-efficient if she took a bag or something in to the office to put the rubbish and recycling in rather than bringing each piece out one at a time. I think she mumbled something about having to “get more steps”. I left her to it and went in search of a dinosaur to play with. I found one too – and we were having a wonderful time until someone (I’m looking at you M Kaz) took them outside – out the front too so there was no chance I’d be able to get to them. I just hope they can find some new friends out there.
