Monday (29 July 2024)

I’m not sure why I’ve been running around “like a mad thing” in the evenings but it seems like I’m not alone. The Mummies were talking about it with Aunty M today while they were out at lunch and it seems Mimi has been doing the same. She doesn’t know either. Could it be the wind? Or that it’s a bit colder? Because it is.

I had M Kaz make a little nest for me under the covers last night so I could go to bed. M Kaz kept her legs outside the covers until she was sure I had “settled” and wasn’t likely to kiss and cuddle her legs – the way I did to M Sooz in the early hours of yesterday morning. When she screamed, M Kaz thought she had a cramp – but it was me. I’m sure M Sooz hadn’t meant to move … but she did. Skin was not broken, so I definitely deserve credit for that!

M Kaz has been busy decluttering today and she even managed to completely clear out the two baskets in the little white cupboard near the table. I wasn’t there when she did it – it was too cold not to be Outback today – but I only found out about it this evening when she pulled one of them out so I could jump in there. I’m not sure if she thought I’d like it in there or if she was trying to ” contain” me – because I was in “that mood” again.

Saturday (27 July 2024)

I knew something was afoot when M Kaz was awake in the early hours of the morning again. This time it was 3 am and she was debating whether she would watch the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony live or wait and watch the replay later in the day. She was awake again an hour later, but I may have had something to do with that. I was hungry and we all know that I can’t feed myself. Well, actually that isn’t entirely true. There were cat crunchies in my bowl but I didn’t want to eat alone, so I asked M Kaz to come out and be with me. She did – for just a moment, before she went back to bed.

I ended up back there too and at some point M Sooz covered me up with my blanket (yes, the dinosaur blanket!). I didn’t before but I like sleeping under the covers now. I think it’s because it has been colder . And yes, I have been putting myself under the covers too. I don’t think M Kaz trusts me when I do that. I think she thinks that I am going to ambush her with kisses and cuddles to her legs. Would I do that?

hile the Mummies were watching the replay of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, I was Outback. I do love it out there and am thankful that Uncle Wayne built it for me – and that the Mummies know it is safe for me to be out (without them).

Thursday (25 July 2024)

The Mummies move their legs around a bit during the night and sometimes M Kaz moves hers so much that she almost knocks me off the bottom of her bed. I usually jump off before she can actually do that but it sometimes doesn’t make for a restful night. Thank goodness I have my own bed. Hmmm, I wonder where Uncle Wayne will sleep when he’s here looking after me when the Mummies are off and about later in the year. Will he sleep in our bed or will he leave our bed for me and sleep in one of the Mummies’ beds? I do know that M Kaz has been giving his visit a lot of thought – which is why she has 200kg of cat litter on order from Katz-Loo. That should be enough to tide us over until they come back and can order some more.
It’s a pity the cat litter can’t keep us warm because it is still cold at Jannie and M Kaz heard on the news today that more cold weather is expected. Single digits was mentioned. M Kaz still hasn’t turned the reverse cycle air conditioning on – they just keep making sure they’re wearing puffer jackets and beanies, and M Sooz has a new pair of warm slippers to keep her feet warm. Nobody remembers it being this cold last year.

M Kaz has been cross about rubbish twice this week. The first one was on Tuesday morning when the rubbish bin wasn’t emptied. I thought it was a bit funny because when she noticed that the neighbour’s bin hadn’t been put out (K & S’s daughter is staying while they are overseas on holiday), she put it out for them – not wanting it not to be collected. So how funny was it when she came back later and found that their bin hadn’t been emptied. M Kaz was going to call the Council to ‘give them a serve’ but she checked their website first and realised the reason it hadn’t been collected was because they couldn’t reach it where she’d positioned it immediately behind S’s ute. She will know for next time that she can’t do that, and that it’s probably better not to put it immediately in front of a vehicle either.

The other time she was cross was because of the blue skip whch she has finally unfolded and started filling with things – old chairs, the door Uncle Wayne replaced, the old desk, a couple of office chairs – that type of thing. She hasn’t finished yet but she knew there was going to be some spare room in there so she told Margaret up the road that she could put some things in – but she thought she was going to do it thoughtfully rather than just dumping stuff in there. Now M Kaz is trying to decide whether she will get her to re-pack the skip properly or whether M Kaz will do it herself. I know which one I’m betting on.
The Mummies have been doing the washing again – and I love that because it gives me a very comfortable place to be while I’m enjoying the warmth of the Outback.

Saturday (20 July 2024)

Those Mummies always go out on Saturday mornings and leave me here all alone. I think they think that it’s okay and that I just go back to bed and go back to sleep. Well, that may be the case but it’s a worry that they would think so. But at least M Kaz always says goodbye to me, ‘See you later Nigey’. I do my bit, I’m always waiting for them when they arrive home – whenever that is.

When they arrived home today M Kaz came Outback with me for a while. I’m not sure what she was doing besides soaking up the sunshine and looking at her phone. And then she was gone – leaving M Sooz reading in bed (it is still cold enough for her to do that – she isn’t a sun fan like M Kaz and me and has to warm up as best she can).

And talk about being warm (not), I’ve been cold cold cold in the evenings. Last night I bothered M Kaz until she turned off the television and came to bed. Then I hopped on our bed and M Kaz covered me up with the dinosaur blanket – even though M Sooz was saying she was worried I wouldn’t get enough air but that’s never been a problem before – and it wasn’t last night either because once M Kaz finally made it into bed and I backed up to her legs, I was set for the night. M Sooz did check I was still there – and breathing – several times throughout the night. M Kaz slept through all that, of course, and she slept through M Sooz having a nightmare as well. And she must have been tired because she didn’t get up and go down to the Broadwater to take photographs of the sunrise and pelicans today – I don’t care about that, of course -what I care about is that if she doesn’t go, I can’t have her warm spot when she leaves.
