Friday (22 Nov 24)

I can’t believe it.  Uncle Wayne said the Mummies were coming home and they’e here!  They’re here!  They arrived on Thursday night and I know that as a cat I’m just supposed to look at them, walk away and turn my back on them – but I just couldn’t!  Those Mothers have been away for weeks and weeks and weeks and although Uncle Wayne took wonderful care of me, they’re the Mummies.  I’m still waiting to see if they brought me anything – besides their bags to smell.  And there so many interesting smells on there.  I think I smelled dog, and – was that Paris?  And a windmill?  And what was Aunty M doing there – they didn’t tell me she was going with them. And how does that work anyway?  She visited me while they were away.

I do love M Kaz’s suitcase though (I think she calls it a ‘port’) and I was sleeping on it yesterday when she had it up on the bed.  I think she thought she was going to unpack it, but it’s a bit difficult to do that when there’s a Nigey on it.

M Sooz spent a lot of time in bed, sleeping, yesterday.  I think she has something called ‘jetlag’.  I’m not sure what it is but M Kaz was saying that she thought she might be having some of it today. I think it’s some kind of sleeping sickness but I can’t be sure.  I think it hasn’t affected M Kaz as much because she’s been drinking coffee – that seems to keep it away a little bit.  Not enough that she can transcribe a long blog for me today – but at least I am blogging again!

Wednesday (9 Oct 24)

Those Mummies have gone now and left me alone with Uncle Wayne. He’d better be on his best behaviour or there will be trouble around here!  He tells me the Dummies (oops, Mummies) are going to be gone for weeks and weeks and weeks. They didn’t tell me that but I did hear M Kaz say something like that when she took me to the V-E-T the other day. She said that since they would be away for a while, she wanted to get me a pedicure so my nails wouldn’t catch on the carpet. How thoughtful! That’s not going to be an issie though because I have a new CAT TOWER!!!  As I understand it, Aunty M has given it to me to look after until she and Mouse and Mimi move into their new home in December. Good luck with that.  It is a wonderous and amazing construction – edifice if you will.  It came in three prices and I helped Uncle Wayne put it together.  That’s more than M Kaz did. She just helped him carry it in.  I do love it.

The fact that those Mummies are going to be away for so long explains why M Kaz has been taking so many photos of me lately. Whichever way I’ve looked lately, there she’s been with the phone, taking picture after picture.

I suppose I could have slept in with the Mummies last night but figured they should get used to me not sleeping with them – keeping them from falling out of bed, warming their feet – all the wonderful services I do for them.  I won’t be able to do any of that for Uncle Wayne.  If tbis is like any of the other times he’s stayed at Jannie, our room is his room for the duration of his stay – even during the day when I could be using it.

Tuesday (24 Sep 24)

Aunty Anja came today to keep me company while those Mummies went out. I am fairly sure they went out to breakfast because they smelled suspiciously like bacon, eggs, tomato, toast and coffee when they came back. I didn’t mind them going out because today – finally – they left it so I could go Outback while they were away. I think it was probably just that they forgot to close the back door before they went out, but I don’t care. I was able to be out there and that’s all that matters. The first thing M Kaz did when she arrived home though was to come out and check on me. Of course I was still there. Where else am I going to go?

M Kaz spent a fair amount of time in her office again today – and we all know she must have been busy doing things in there because she locked me out … again. I think she’s been doing secret trip business. There’s certainly been a bit of typing and a couple of telephone calls with the travel agent. I still think they think that I don’t know what’s going on. How could I not with the countdown happening on the whiteboard in the kitchen and the slight air of panic that surrounds M Kaz when she rubs out the number and puts another (lesser) one there.

Saturday (21 Sep 24)

The television has been on a fair bit today – and for once it’s not ‘Midsomer Murders’.  They didn’t even watch a full episode tonight – I wonder if it’s because they are getting close to the end and want to drag their viewing experience out as much as possible?  Or because M Sooz is starting to be more familiar with the episodes and remembers what’s going to happen in them?  Or both?  So, not Midsomer Murders. M Kaz was watching YouTube videos about the Galaxy Fold 6 and all its features, including the new AI it has on board, and about the Notion app.  I’m not sure either topic was as enthralling as she would have wished because it wasn’t even 9 o’clock before she was nodding off on the couch.  She fought it – of course – which is how she made it to 9.15.  It’s not surprising she gets a little tired because she’s now getting up before 5am so she’s sure to see the sunrise.

And she was busy today filling in the hole she’s made near the driveway but driving the ear through that patch of now not-grass.  Someone had kindly put a cone over it but we don’t know what it was about that cone because it just kept attracting dog droppings. “Maybe it’s a cat” someone ( who Should have known better) suggested but no, it was dogs because cats at least mind their own business and know to cover it over. The dogs and their owners had made no attempt to be responsible citizens.  So, after getting road base from Bunnings yesterday, M Kaz set out to “fix it” today!  She scraped out all the dog droppings that had been deposited there , even digging deeper into the hole to remove any tainted soil and then put the road base down, and topped it off with pavers.  M Kaz figures that will hold it until Uncle Wayne arrives in a couple of weeks and he can pop some concrete down.
