Monday (28 Jul 25)

I did miss those Mummies on Saturday night but it did mean I had my choice of beds!  They were in Toowoomba seeing Uncle Wayne (before he goes off to volunteer at the Gympie Muster) and Aunty Wendy and the rest of the family.  They had a good time although they always come back exhausted. I’m not sure what they get up to while they’re there but you can rest assured that whenever they get home, M Kaz goes down for a nap as soon as she’s said hello to me and checked my tray and food bowls.

I had thought Aunty M might come over to see me while the Mummies were away but they had warned me that might not happen because Aunty M has so many responsibilities these days – and because the Mummies had told Aunty M I would be fine by myself overnight (and they would be watching me via the cameras) so Iwould be able to manage.  And I did – and well – but it’s not about ‘managing’ Mummies, it’s about having her company – – – and don’t you dare censor me M Kaz – just because you’re doing the transcribing. (I’ll try to sneak something in later when she goes to sleep … but just for the moment we’ll let her have her way.)

I did sleep on the end of M Kaz’s bed for part of last night but tonight I am sleeping on M Sooz’s recliner.  Nothing could be finer …

Friday (25 July 25)

Well, that definitely wasn’t a gentle start to the day.  I watched M Kaz get up, have a shower (that was strange, she doesn’t usually do it until she gets home) and then go out.  I was asleep when she came back – except for when she woke me while giving M Sooz her morning coffee and then going through her photographs as she sat on the side of the bed.

Then the next thing I knew M Kaz was scooping me up (I did put up a fight) and put me in my travel cage, into the car and then told the car ‘Vetcall Ashmore’ and we were on the way.  Luckily she took my mind off it by calling Uncle Wayne as we drove.

So … we were off to the VET.  No wonder the Mummies had been spelling words around me – they have obviously been planning this for a couple of days.  It was a new vet – Dr Donna – and I was okay with that once I’d settled in to the new environment.  Kendall made it easier for me by spraying a cover and then popping it over the top of my cage.  I thought it was santiser but apparently it’s a ‘happy smell’ – she used the term ‘pheromone’ which M Kaz seemed to understand.

So, what do we know?  I’m pretty (Dr Donna told me so), I am 5.5 kg (or thereabouts), my nails have been done, I still have my heart murmur, I don’t need my teeth done although there is some calculi which we are trying to move with my new almost-not- ⁸⅞ç1 bite-sized teeth crunchies.  I had some of them this morning and they are tasty but I’m not sure I’m not going to dislocate my jaw trying to eat them.   I have to go back to see Dr Donna at the end of August to have my vaccinations, and we’ll check to see how my teeth are going with the new food then.

And all of that before breakfast so I was very happy to get home to get into my morning routine – including using my litter tray – what was M Kaz thinking not giving me time to do my thing before we went!

Otherwise, all is much of a muchness here at Jannie although M Kaz was telling me this morning that we have a tradie coming today to look at the roof.  Heh heh – little does Jacob know that he has to pass the Nigey test before the Mummies will even look at using his company for the work.

Friday (18 July 25)

I’m very excited because Aunty Wendy is coming today and she’s going to help M Kaz fill the blue Flexiskip so the people from the Council can come and collect it – and when they do come to collect it, it should be filled with all the clutter from around here – in the house and from the garage.  I think I’m even more excited about it than M Kaz is!  I’m not sure what she’s going to term as ‘clutter’ but as long as it’s none of my stuff it will be okay.  And as long as it’s not my new box … although I say ‘new’ but I haven’t been allowed to have it yet because it’s full of toilet paper.  And speaking of toilet paper, Aunty M told the Mummies the other day about a program with Dr Karl about recycling toilet paper which she says was very much worth watching.  Hopefully those Mummies don’t watch it while I’m outside or asleep.

Will they or won’t they … that is the question.  There’s talk of them going to Sydney later in the year and they’re just starting to plan it now.  I don’t think they’re planning to take me with them though – which could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on whether they’re going to leave me at home or push me off to boarding school somewhere.  I might suggest to them that they let Cate’s granddaughter (who seems to be old enough to be responsible now – especially if she’s supervised) come in to feed me and clean my litter on a daily basis … but that’s only if Aunty M still comes to visit me on a regular basis.  Hmmmmm.  Lots to think about there.

I told M Kaz there was room on the couch for both of us 🙂

It’s raining today but that’s the first time in a while.  It’s not just raining though, it’s also cold, so I think I’ll be staying inside for the day.  That will suit me just fine especially as I’ll be able to cozy up to M Sooz on the bed because she isn’t planning to go out today either.  And because it’s cold, I think the Mummies (and Aunty Wendy) will be having a hearty soup for dinner.  I don’t know why it is that those Mummies never give me hot food.  I must remember to get Aunty M to tell me if they give Mimi (my one-time nemesis but now not) hot or even warm food.

Thursday (10 Jul 25)

It’s surprising that M Kaz still gets up in the morning to go and photograph the sunrise – she already has so many shots of it! But still she gets up in the dark and disappears for a couple of hours before she comes back and goes into her office to look through hundreds of photographs – where there seems to be only neglible difference between many of them. Still, I suppose it keeps her happy and we all know that life at Jeannie is better if the Mummies are happy. And what was that I heard this morning? M Sooz saying she could go down to watch the sunrise as well. I know ages ago she used to go with M Kaz but she stopped doing that – U’m sure it was because she knew I was lonely when then both went. You have to love a Mummy who looks out for you.

I often say that I don’t get enough vegetables so I was impressed when M Kaz came home from Aldi yesterday with a giant carrot for me. I think it’s a carrot although the colour is a bit odd for a carrot – yellow. But I like it well enough – for a vegetable. It helps that it has a stringy-thing on one end of it.

M Kaz has been looking at me strangely the last couple of days and this morning she was playing with my paws and muttering something about the need for a nail clipping. I agree with her … my claws are starting to catch on the carpet. I think she’s worried about taking me back to the Vet who was charging ahead to book a cardiologist to check my heart murmur before I had my teeth done. I’m not sure if I’m surprised or not that M Kaz put that off for a while (read: still hasn’t done anything about it).

Who else is surprised that M Kaz didn’t stay up past her bedtime last night to watch the launch of the new Samsung foldable phone. She had talked about it but in the end I know she decided that this morning would be soon enough to see the details. I was glad she did because this morning the reviews of the phone say that she will not be able to write on the screen with it, and that’s kind of a deal breaker for her. Well, that’s what she says but we’ll see in the fullness of time.

M Kaz is still doing cooking at home (is using an air fryer to heat things up actually classed as ‘cooking’?) and she has started doing fish and chips. I am looking forward to trying it out – the chips are good but they are yet to share some of the fish with me … Nigey the cat – who loves fish! I’ll have to ask them louder next time.
