Saturday (10 Aug 24)

The Olympics is still on and those Mummies are still watching the climbing. It’s the Women’s Boulder and Lead finals tonight and everyone is very excited – especially the Mummies. I think they have their favourites – especially Mori Ai, the short Japanese climber, and Janja Gainbret, the tall Slovenian. It is fascinating to watch the different techniques the climbers use as they complete the four different boulder courses, based on their physiques and individual strengths. The Mummies are wondering if they televise Sport Climbing outside of the Olympics. They may be thinking about what they’ll watch when the Olympics and Paralympics finish – but they will always have Midsomer Murders. They’re still watching Barnaby when the Olympics aren’t on – like before and between events. It was wonderful this evening when M Sooz told M Kaz who the murderer was – but, M Sooz said, he seems like such a nice man. They often do.

M Kaz is spending a lot of time in front of her computer and tablet at the moment. She’s doing research for their trip, consolidating the notes she’s been making over the last few months – well, that’s what she’s saying but we all know she’s also trying out a new app. She seems happy with it so far but she’s only had it a couple of days.
It’s a bit warmer here at the moment – way warmer than the 5° degree morning a couple of weeks ago. It was 16° yesterday morning when M Kaz went down to the water. When she goes M Sog and I stay in bed. Yes, it may no5 be as cold but it’s still cold enough.

Wednesday (08 August 24)

The Olympics are on again at Jannie and the Mummies are watching the Sport Climbing – with the Boulders, the Lead wall  and the Speed Climbing.  M Kaz loves the Speed Climbing best, watching two climbers scrambling up a rock wall in seconds, like spiders. And they wonder why I chase things on the television screen. And speaking of that, the current score of M Kaz versus Nigey (retraining me not to scratch the television screen) is unchanged.  I am definitely winning and unless M Kaz comes up with a new strategy,  it’s going to stay that way.  It’s nice that she dreams though.

There have been some changes around here though.  When M Kaz was coming back from her time down at the Broadwater this morning, an email came through asking her to rate the service she received from the people who provided the Flexi Skip that’s been out the front of Jannie the last couple of weeks.  She said she felt it was a bit cheeky of them since she’d only booked a pick-up yesterday and it hadn’t been yet, or it hadn’t been when she left home just before 6 am.  But they must have come when she was out because when she arrived back at Jannie at 7.30 am, the skip was gone – and all the rubbish that had been gathering around Jannie the last little while with it.  M Kaz wouldn’t let me help her load anything in to the skip.  Mind you, she could have used some help getting that desk in to the skip, and definitely the office chairs.  She still hasn’t managed to get her ring (you know, the one that was squashed between the two office chairs as she was trying to person-handle them into the skip) back to its original shape, but she can live with that, especially when she thinks about what had happened if she hadn’t had the ring on to absorb the squish injury.

Those Mummies were both a bit wet around the eyes when they were watching BarnabyLand aka Midsomer Murders this evening.  They weren’t sure how it happened so quickly, but tonight was the episode where Tom Barnaby, Joyce and Cully bid farewell to Midsomer.

It was also the night where M Kaz was stunned that I was able to leave one of my rubber bands on its side after I’d finished playing with it.

Saturday (3 August 2024)

Those Mummies are watching the Olympics again this evening and this time they’re watching the Decathlon with the men doing the 110M Hurdles. Do they do a girl’s Decathlon? Surely they must. As surely as Nigeys get up to scratch at the television. Nigey: 3,269,387 M Kaz: 0. She’s resorting to the spray bottle again. I’m not sure it’ll work any better this time but we all know M Kaz will keep trying (even if it doesn’t work). But I’m not playing anymore tonight. I’ve had my two dinners and looked up adoringly at M Kaz and now I’m going to bed – yes, on M Kaz’s bed.

Friday (2 August 2024)

That M Kaz is always thinking of me.  She found me a new place to hang out – I think I said that she has been doing some decluttering and one of the areas she has ‘attacked’ is the white cupboard near the kitchen table.  It had a couple of baskets in there and now that those have been cleared out, she has been letting me hang out in them.  She insists on being there with me while I do, I think she’s worried I’m going to dislodge it and it and I will fall to the ground.  I’m sure I would bounce back but we’re not sure about the basket.

It’s still cold here and when M Kaz arrived back from being down at the Broadwater this morning, she loaned me her coat to keep me warm.  I think I look good in gold!  Hmmmm … nothing has happened yet about the Jannie Olympics so I will have to remind the Mummies about them.

We haven’t had a lot of rain lately, so I’ve been doing my best to  help out with that.  We’re keeping track to see just how long it takes for the rain to come now that I’ve done the ‘behind the ears’ thing – I was going to call it a ‘trick’ but I think it’s more scientific than that.
