“I think we’ve trained her” – that’s what M Kaz told M Sooz – and I will let them believe it for a little while – until they put that spray bottle away and don’t approach it when I approach the television. Can you imagine that? That they would have the nerve to think they could train me! It’s nice for them to have a dream, I suppose.

I think M Kaz has finally remembered that she hasn’t finished putting the rest of the shelves together yet. I saw her looking at them today when she was opening the blind and the sliding windows so I could look out while they were off having breakfast with their mates this morning.

M Kaz had a big talk with Uncle Wayne on the phone this afternoon. He’s still off building fences but not as many or as much as he’d like because they don’t do it from Friday lunchtime to Monday morning. He is enjoying it though and was saying that now that he’s moving around and doing things again, he’s dropped a couple of kilos – he seemed happy about that.

The Mummies were watching Midsomer Murders again this evening – two episodes. I don’t think it’s going to end any time soon – especially if they get to the end of season 24 and start all over again. They’re up to season 3 on the second time around now. The only time they’re not watching Midsomer Murders is when Aunty M is over – they’ve started watching a series called Obituary with her. We’ve seen one episode so far.

Friday (8 March 2024)

I slept on the end of M Kaz’s bed last night and it was great except for her teeth chattering. It was pretty annoying but she’d probably say it was my fault because I was on her blanket and she didn’t want to disturb me by moving me off it. More like she was worried I was going to lash out at her if she’d disturbed me. It may have happened once or twice before but there’s nothing to say it would happen again. Come to think of it, it may be time for me to go to the nail salon again. There’s always something to do, isn’t there?

Aunty M and her mother (Mouse) came to visit me yesterday evening. They needed M Kaz to help them with a little job – accessing and withessing a form so Mouse’s doctor can mention her in a medical paper she is publishing. I think Aunty M’s mother’s nose gets a mention.

I have heard about it but I never thought it would happen here. Tonight as she was giving me a can of tuna, M Kaz covered my bowl with cling wrap first. It has to do with keeping the bowl cleaner – for the Mummies, not to ensure I am eating off the cleanest surface possible. Hmm. Well it was different but we’ll only know if it’s a keeper when M Kaz cleans the bowl. Fingers crossed it works because l’m fairly sure the Mummies heard about it from Uncle Wayne while he was here, so he’ll probably think it’s a good idea while he’s here and taking care of me while the Mummies are off in search of European cats.

But even though they’ll be off and about, I’m not worried. I’ll have Uncle Wayne and all the rest of my friends here -some of then I’d forgotten a little – like the big blue rubber band who I had to dinner with me tonight.

Wednesday 6 March 2024

Let’s just call it the battle of the wills – and be done with it.  Because I’m certainly done with M Kaz waving that spray bottle around in my face, just because I am up with the television.  It would be different if I was even looking at it – but, no, just being leg’s length from it is enough.

Mind you, I have more than enough reason to have a go at the television!  Those Mothers finally finished all 24 available series of Midsomer Murders and I thought they were going to move on to another series.  I was wrong.  Can you believe it, they’ve gone back to the very beginning.  Grrrrr!  Still, we got to see the Rainbirds again – they weren’t very nice people the first time around and they haven’t improved with this next viewing – but they were characters!

The yard man came yesterday which is a bit odd because I’m sure I heard M Kaz say she was planning to do the mowing and whipper-snippering herself now.  Still, she has been a bit busy with trip-planning,  They are off in a little bit to Sydney for a long weekend, and then, of course, there’s their trip to Europe later in the year that needs to be organised.  I can’t tell you how many travel videos they’ve been watching.  M Kaz is so excited about it, she’s even put a countdown timer on her phone – so she’s told me, anyway – she doesn’t want me to see it and get all worried about them leaving.  I’m not, of course, because Uncle Wayne is coming to stay with me!

Did someone say ‘Uncle Wayne’?

Wednesday 28 Feb 2024

I don’t know why they would want to lock me outside but they did.  One minute I was our there just minding my own business and the next second the door into the Mummies’ bedroom was closing with me on the wrong side.  I checked the laundry door but that was closed too.  Thank goodness M Kaz started wondering where I was because otherwise I might have been stuck Outback all night.  When M Kaz asked if I was outside when she couldn’t find me in any of my usual spaces (and there are a few) M Sooz said that couldn’t be the case because Nigey (that’s me) was sitting on the couch just a second ago and there’s no way that she could have made it outside in the short time that she was closing the bedroom door to Outback. Well she was wrong.  They don’t call me “greased lightning” for nothing.

It’s hotter and colder here at Jannie at the moment.  I have been enjoying Outback on the water heater and I have enjoyed being inside in the air conditioning – sitting next to M Kaz’s feet as she does what she does or on the white cupboard which has somehow made its way from the Mummies’ bedroom, to the hallway and then to near the television and then, finally, to near the table.  I like it there because I can be with Tobbie.  The only down side is that M Kaz has me in her sights – I can’t tell you how many photographs she has been taking of me while I’m trying to relax there.  She says she has to take lots and lots and lots of photographs because she’s testing the different settings on the phone’s camera and I am a wonderfully photogenic compliant subject.  Okay … okay … she didn’t really say that last bit about me.  It’s true though.
