On the deck

I love the outside area that Uncle Wayne made for me. I am still getting used to all the smells and the concrete and the window ledges (from the other side) and the screen door and whether I can use the cat door to get out here, but I am calling it an unmitigated success. It’s just a shame that Uncle Wayne isn’t here to share it with … sigh!

I was allowed out there by myself this morning while M Kaz was phaffing around bringing her work stuff out. And this is me dictating my blog and seeing if it’s possible to jump up on to the shade cloth – apparently I can but I’m not very good at it yet. Uncle Wayne had suggested that M Kaz put the Gorilla stand up higher so I can sit on it and look out – which she finally did this afternoon, but I’m not totally sure about it yet … but that doesn’t mean I won’t give it a go.

The Mummies were out for most of the morning … they came back with loads of stuff – clothes mostly, and some rice paper rolls for their lunches – or dinners. It’s going to be a hard decision for them because Aunty M came back from Sydney this week and she had tabouli and hummus for them – which they love!

M Kaz is puddling around – I think she calls it “decluttering” – and seems to be quite happy with how she’s going … which is why she’s taking a break to help me with my blog – and to watch me climb up the shade sail.

Wednesday

We are all very sad today because Uncle Wayne has packed up his truck and left for Toowoomba. M Kaz was leaking from the eyes as he drove away and she didn’t stop for a while after he was gone. I’m just a little bit happy because this means that I can have my bedroom back – and that before he left he finished enclosing my deck out the back so I will have somewhere else to go and play now … once Robbo has been to run the gerni over the area and clean it up a bit. Uncle Wayne has done such a good job though that I think it’s going to be very difficult for me to force my way out of the deck … unless I’m able to sneak out the door to the outside when they have it open.

I can’t wait until they have furniture out there – it’s going to be wonderful to have my afternoon nap out there in the sunshine/shade. And the Mummies are talking about possibly leaving their screen door open so I will be able to walk through there back in to the house as well as using the cat door. I haven’t used the cat door … yet. It’s something I am going to have to work my way up to … I think it hasn’t been used for a while so it’s a bit stiff, and I’m worried that I might be a bit “bitey”. Nobody wants to see a Nigey stuck in there!

I had my first climb of the screen door out there this morning. It’s a bit different from the screen door out the front – they’ve used different material for the screen part of the door – and when I went to climb it, I was stuck right up near the top. Thank you M Kaz for lifting me down … and wasn’t it good that I didn’t put up too much of a struggle!

Sunday

I am excited. Uncle Wayne is still here and still working on making the Mummies’ deck the best it could possibly be – and the Mummies are extremely grateful he is being so painstaking with it. I think M Kaz is enjoying working with him as a Trade’s Assistant and she certainly is learning lots about using power tools – she’s been using an impact driver with the rivet adaptor and even I can see that’s a way better option than the hand-operated rivet gun … that’s fun too but very slow and given they have so many rivets to do, they don’t have time for mucking around.

There was good progress today with the deck ends getting filled in with shade cloth … it looks great. I’ve only seen it through the windows or the screen doors because, despite assurances a couple of days ago that it won’t be long now until I can go out on the deck – I still haven’t set any of my feet out there, and it’s not for want of trying – I don’t know how I could be urging them on any faster. It’s taking so much effort that I have to keep my strength up by having lots of naps – and spending the rest of the time looking as cute as I can – I’d like to say that I’ve been being as cute as I can, but we all know that’s not right.

Uncle Wayne has given me a new box – although I have to take his empty six-pack holders out to be able to fit in there. And I do!
